Disgraced Adams County Commissioner Alice Nichol to seek reelection for third term
One would think that accusations of nepotism, cronyism, fraud, and corruption would be enough to dissuade someone from running for office but sometimes politicians just don’t get it. Such is the case with Democrat Alice Nichol who announced today she will seek a third term as county commissioner.
They say ignorance is bliss but one has to wonder how Nichol couldn’t know how fed up the citizens of Adams County are with her and her cohorts in Brighton. The scandal-tainted commissioner has been in the newspapers nearly as much as the Denver Broncos in recent years as she and other Adams County Democrats have been central figures in the indignities plaguing Adams County.
In a statement announcing her bid, Nichol makes the laughable comment, “I’ve always been transparent in my dealings with the county. I’m inspired to continue my path of serving the resident of Adams County supported by reform efforts to improve the county’s financial transparency and integrity.” Read the rest of this entry »
Adams County paving scandal spurs legislation
Call it the Quality Paving bill.
The Quality Paving scandal, which allegedly cost Adams County taxpayers $8.6 million in fraudulent company billings, prompted ethics legislation from a state senator in the county. It forbids local and state officials from accepting free or discounted services from government contractors.
“The bill was in response to everyone who told me, ‘Adams County elected officials are corrupt. What are you going to do?’ ” Sen. Mary Hodge said. “That’s where it started.”
Hodge, a Democrat, said she had a fellow Democrat in mind — county commissioner Alice Nichol — as well as two top officials in the county public works department. All three had work done at their homes by Quality Paving while the company held no-bid contracts with the county.
Hodge’s bill, which passed a Senate committee unanimously this week, prohibits accepting goods or services from anyone “who is at the same time providing goods or services to the state or local government” unless the total circumstances indicate “a fair and legitimate transaction.” Read the rest of this entry »
Cash Is King
| By Peak News Contributor Dave Diepenbrock
When Barack Obama makes a U-turn, he’s a superb stunt driver. Obama just embraced Super PAC spending to help his re-elect. He’ll make available “senior White House advisers and campaign staff” to beg fat cats for bucks. That’s change from, “I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests. They should be decided by the American people.” Bring on the bankrolls, boys! Forget (euphemistically) the people. But Obama’s fat cat connection already existed. Consider Super Bowl ads, where major Democratic donors took care of spreading Obama’s message (reviewing this Super Bowl ad rundown).

Ex-Paving Owner Found Guilty In Adams County Government Corruption Case
Jerry Rhea With Quality Paving Found Guilty After CALL7 Investigation
17th Judicial District Attorney Don Quick told CALL7 after a four week trial, an Adams County jury deliberated for four and a half hours and found Rhea guilty. “It is clear from the verdict that the jurors were convinced the former owner and President of Quality Paving/Resurfacing, Jerry Rhea, was responsible for his part in the fraud involving Adams County taxpayers money,” Quick said in a news releases. GOP Presidential Candidates Ready To Descend On The Centennial State
| We’re less than two weeks away from the Colorado GOP precinct caucuses. Only days ago it looked like Colorado’s caucus would be a coronation, now it’s undeniably going to be a dog fight. As Colorado GOP Chairman Ryan Call explained to Denver Westword’s Michael Roberts yesterday, due to the fluid nature of the race the primary campaigns are only now beginning to implement their plan of attack in Colorado.
He’s likely to improve on his 2008 showing when he received8.4% of the vote for fourth place, and only won Gilpin County — a notoriously libertarian area. To help boost his chances Paul will be campaigning in Colorado on Tuesday, January 31, per a report from an NBC reporter’s Facebook page. Mitt Romney is set to visit the state on February 6 and 7, as Call told Denver Westword. Read the rest of this entry » |
Ron Paul’s campaign is the one exception. Colorado has always been a top target for them, as caucus states reward the type of fervor and organization unique to Paul’s campaign. Paul is the only candidate with a physical campaign office, as
