Former Brighton Mayor Jan Pawlowski is hoping to return to life in public office.

Pawlowski, a Republican, is challenging embattled County Commissioner Alice Nichol, who has been linked to a scandal involving Quality Paving. Nichol, who was first elected county commissioner in 2004, is up for re-election this fall.

Pawlowski served as mayor of Brighton for eight years before leaving because of term limits. Prior to becoming mayor, she also served six years on Brighton’s City Council.

In a statement, Pawlowski said she hopes to restore integrity to the office of county commissioner.

“Adams County has been my home for the past 45 years, and it distresses me to see the negative publicity the county is receiving,” Pawlowski said. “We need change and I feel my political and community experience will bring a positive change to the board of county commissioners.”

Nichol, a Democrat, would be seeking her third term as county commissioner in District 2. She was elected to the Board of Commissioners in November 2004, re-elected in November 2008, and currently serves as vice chairman.

As many of you may already be aware, our wonderful House District 33 Representative Don Beezley is NOT going to be running for re-election in 2012. This is a sad loss for our district as Don was one of a kind and will be missed.

As you also know, we NEED to maintain 33 members of the House to keep our Republican Majority to ensure that our conservative principles are represented in the Legislature, as well as to block bad legislation put forth by the liberals in our State.

We are lucky to have an experienced young leader named Dave Pigott who has stepped up and is running for House District 33 against the tax and spend, union backed, liberal Diane Primavera. There is a reason we made a change from the progressive agenda of Primavera in 2010; we, HD33 made the decision to elect a principled conservative in Don Beezley and Dave will continue to lead our community to liberty and prosperity.

Dave is a West Point Graduate, he served our country in Iraq, completed a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, recently graduated from University of Colorado Law School, passed the bar exam, graduate of the Leadership Program of the Rockies, is currently the First Vice-Chairman of the Broomfield County Republicans, serves on the FISH Board and has countless other accomplishments.

Dave has sworn to uphold the and defend the Constitution of The United States four times; upon entering West Point, when commissioned as an Army Officer, upon entering Law School and when he became an attorney.

“If elected I will bring the same dedication and commitment to excellence I have pledged to every cause I have ever served, and I will represent the citizens of Colorado with honor.”

We would love to have you and your membership join us to kick off David’s run for HD33 on Saturday January 14th from 6-8pm at Bumpers Grill in Broomfield. The invitation is attached. If you cannot join us, you can still make a secure online donation at www.davepigott.com or mail a check to:

Committee to Elect David J. Pigott

Thank you so much for your constant support and efforts!

COLORADO WINNING TEAM FOR PRESIDENT

Sign up today to be your precinct captain for the Romney Team

For several months national and early primary state polls show Governor Romney the clear choice of mainstream Republicans for the 2012 Republican Presidential candidate. Governor Romney:

Is the most electable of all Republican candidates because he can win the majority of unaffiliated voters, the group of voters who will decide the winner of the general election.

Consistently demonstrates a superior understanding of how to create jobs and expand the economy.

Has a 59-point jobs plan to grow the economy and create jobs which stands in stark contrast with the Obama Administration failed policies.

Looks and acts the most presidential of all Republican candidates.

Is endorsed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and numerous Colorado GOP leaders, including Senator Hank Brown, Governor Bill Owens, Senator Wayne Allard, Attorney General John Suthers, Congressman Bob Beauprez, Secretary of State Scott Gessler and State Treasurer Walker Stapleton. [A list of Additional endorsements is attached.]

The National Review, a leading conservative magazine, concluded ROMNEY’S NUMBER ONE. [Read the full review at: http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/284700/romney-s-one-ramesh-ponnuru ]

Adams County Republicans agree the number one priority is to defeat President Obama in the 2012 general election.

The Obama campaign team and the Democratic Party fear Governor Romney more than any other Republican candidate and have developed a campaign strategy to “kill” Governor Romney in the general election.

President Obama’s campaign plans to raise a $1 billion campaign war chest to defeat Governor Romney.

This week the Democratic National Committee released its first negative TV ads against Governor Romney.

Adams County Republicans support Governor Romney.

75% of the 4,000 Republicans that attended the 2008 precinct caucus voted for Governor Romney to be the Republican Presidential candidate out of a large field of great candidates that included Governor Huckabee, Senator Thompson, Senator McCain, Mayor Giuliani, and others.

Colorado may be the most important of the seven swing states that will decide the 2012 Presidential election. Already, President Obama has made three campaign stops in Colorado in recent months.

If Governor Romney wins Colorado he will win the Presidency.

Adams County needs to turnout a large Romney vote in the general election to ensure Colorado goes into the Romney column.

Governor Romney needs your help to win Colorado. He needs you to recruit Romney supporters to attend the February 7, 2012 precinct caucus to:

Decisively win the straw poll.

Elect Romney delegates to the county, state and the Republican National Convention.

Upon winning the Republican nomination for President Governor Romney needs you to be part of his general election Victory team to win Colorado on the way to Victory on November 6, 2012.

The Adams County Republicans for Romney for President requests you:

Sign up as your precinct captain for the Adams County Romney Campaign Team.

As a Team precinct captain you will be the Romney Campaign representative at your precinct caucus and the precinct contact person for general election campaign activities.

The Romney Colorado Team is chaired by Jack Stansbery, former Colorado Republican State Party Director. The Adams County Romney Team is chaired by Clark Bolser, former Adams County Republican Party Chairman and chair for numerous past candidate campaigns. If you have questions, please contact Clark at clarkbolser@msn.com or 303-220-1420. Click here to volunteer for the Mitt Romney campaign.

The Adams County Democrats seem to think so." width="288" height="254" />Do we really need more of the corrupt the Adams Family? The Adams County Democrats seem to think so.

In a letter to the editor of the Northglenn-Thornton Sentinel a resident took to lamenting partisan politics at Thornton City Hall. Considering the source is as partisan as they come, the dispatch is almost comical.

Linda Wisniewski rips into freshly seated Thornton Mayor Heidi Williams, apparently concerned about Williams’ party affiliation, campaign contributors and associations. One would think if you were not for partisan politics, you would give someone a fair shot no matter their political affiliation.

In signing her name to the letter, Wisniewski should have provided full disclosure. She and her husband, Marty, in fact serve on theState Central Committee for the Colorado Democratic Party. She is also intimately involved with the Adams County Democratic Party of which Marty serves as chair.

Now that we have established the source and the far left direction it comes from, we could easily point by point refute the ridiculous claims and accusations in the letter. However, we can see that it is actually a thinly veiled attack piece that attempts to use smoke and mirrors to obfuscate the truth about Wisniewski’s own party and its scandalous role in Adams County.

Was the 2011 mayoral campaign, one which is ostensibly non-partisan, more partisan that past elections? Absolutely it was, as it should have been.

Voters of Thornton and Adams County as a whole have seen what form of leadership Democrats and the Adams Family provide. Scandal after scandal has rocked our community.

Let’s take a look at some of the names who have shamed us: Noel Busck (D), Gil Reyes (D), Ken Riley (D), Alice Nichol(D), Larry Pace (D), Diane Christner (D), Doug Darr (D), and James Hibbard (D).

Do you see a pattern there? Hint: The D means Democrat.

Those eight alone are responsible for dozens of scandals involving Adams County Democrats from the city to the county level. Adams County’s decades long history of corrupt politicos with D’s after their name is catching up to it.

In an ideal world, yes, local elections would be non-partisan but that isn’t reality. Perhaps it isn’t always as visible as it was this year but it is always there.

The reality is that we have corrupt politicians that steal from taxpayers and cling on to power at all costs (and all have the same letter following their name). We also have an Adams County Democratic Party that rather than clean house, made officers of those involved in scandals.

Wisniewski and other leftist partisans can whine and cry about the lost battle of 2011 or those in the past and the ones coming in the future but the fact of the matter is that Thornton and Adams County voters have woken up. We have seen the type of leadership they provide and have had enough.

If the Adams County Democrats are so concerned about the citizens of Thornton and the county, then they should start by looking within and getting their own house in order. Until then, we will look elsewhere and in doing so we will certainly find people with real solutions, leadership ability and the moral fiber deserving of our vote.

http://www.tonysrants.com/thornton/pot-meet-kettle-partisan-democrat-decries-partisan-politics/

In a blow to Colorado Republicans that could affect election outcomes for the next decade, a district judge has ruled in favor of a Democratic map that redraws congressional district lines.

In his ruling issued late today, Denver District Judge Robert Hyatt said the “Moreno/South” Democratic map submitted at trial “most accurately reflected and preserved current communities of interest in 2011.

“It appears clear to this court that the Moreno approach to redistricting Colorado will also produce the maximum amount of competition of any of the realistically proffered maps in at least three districts — the 3rd, the 6th and the 7th,” Hyatt wrote in his ruling. “Each of those districts contains significant Latino populations, giving that group a major role in the decision about who will represent them in Congress.

“Thus, not only does the Moreno mapping approach reflect Colorado’s current communities of interest, it holds the real possibility that voters will be as engaged in the electoral process as possible. This is beneficial.”

Republicans can appeal the ruling directly to the Colorado Supreme Court, and a final ruling would be expected before Dec. 15 to allow county clerks enough time to redraw precincts.

“There are significant problems with the map adopted by the court, and the way it divides Douglas County, puts Larimer County with Boulder, stretches the Denver district to the southwest, and dilutes Hispanic voting strength, should give every Coloradan cause for concern,” said Colorado GOP chair Ryan Call.

“Time and time again, the courts continue to rule in favor of Democrats in the context of redistricting. While Republicans in the state legislature attempted to forge a reasonable compromise to allow the legislature to fulfill it’s duty, Democrats blocked all attempts and bet that the courts would give them yet another win. And the Democrats’ bet paid off.”

Attorney Mark Grueskin, who argued for Democrats, said Republican maps did not resemble the Colorado of 2011.

“The other plans reflected districts that were drawn 10 years ago,” Grueskin said. “So you had these amalgamations of voters that didn’t have a lot in common with one another. Now they do.”

Under the new congressional map, Larimer County goes from the 4th Congressional District to the 2nd, and Douglas County would go from the 6th to the 4th.

Meanwhile, rural areas of Adams and Arapahoe counties would move from the 7th and 6th Congressional districts to the 4th.

State Senate President Brandon Shaffer, D-Longmont, is running for the 4th Congressional District seat now occupied by U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, a Republican from Yuma. Shaffer would get to stay in the 4th Congressional District under the new map, though one Democratic map at one point had placed him in the 2nd.

Congressional candidates, however, do not have to live in the districts they represent.

In the 6th Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, a Republican, had enjoyed a safe GOP district that now would be competitive. U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, a Republican from Cortez who represents the 3rd Congressional District, also would be in a potentially competitive district.

The legislature must redraw congressional boundaries every 10 years to reflect population shifts over the past decade. The 2011 legislature was unable to come to agreement, leading to lawsuits filed in Denver District Court by Republicans and Democrats.

BRIGHTON — More than $1.6 million in settlements have been paid to former employees of past Adams County Coroner James Hibbard, all related to allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation in his office.

The biggest settlement — $650,000 — was to Dr. Michael Arnall, a pathologist under contract with Hibbard’s office. Arnall claims he was fired for trying to help women sexually harassed by Hibbard’s chief deputy coroner, Mark Chavez.

Arnall also alleges in his federal lawsuit that Hibbard used an overhead camera to peer at the breasts of female employees during autopsies.

But over the past several months, other settlements have been reached with women who worked in Hibbard’s office, according to the county attorney’s office.

Emma Hall — now the Boulder County coroner — received $350,000. Monica Broncucia-Jordan — currently the Adams County coroner — got $275,000. Then pathology assistant Sherronda Appleberry received $275,000. She is now Broncucia-Jordan’s chief deputy. Another former employee, Amy Aragon, collected $85,000.

All the women were either fired by Hibbard or left the office after being allegedly harassed, officials say.

Of those settlements, $1.1 million was paid by Adams County; the county’s insurer paid $550,000, according to the county attorney’s office.

Attorney David Lane, who represented Arnall, said the settlements should frighten cities and counties that tolerate sexual harassment among employees and supervisors.

“It is hoped that this sends a clear message to any municipality that sexual harassment and retaliation will not be tolerated,” Lane said.

Adams County Attorney Hal Warren said the county had to weigh the cost benefits of arguing the case before a jury.

“For us, it’s really about assessing the risks going to trial,” Warren said.

Hibbard could not be reached for comment.

He was harshly criticized for his handling of cases during his eight years as coroner. He declined to run again in 2010 even though voters approved a term-limit extension for his office.

Arnall ran for coroner against Broncucia-Jordan. Arnall now works as a contract pathologist for both Broncucia-Jordan and Hall.

In his lawsuit, Arnall said he “witnessed severe and pervasive sexual harassment and retaliation upon many of (Hibbard’s) female employees.”

In the lawsuit, Arnall alleged Chavez would often rub Hall’s back and made “unwelcomed comments about Ms. Hall’s appearance.”

Arnall said his contract with the coroner’s office was terminated in December 2008 in part because he preserved evidence of Hibbard observing Broncucia-Jordan’s breasts with an autopsy camera.

A contract pathologist who spoke out against sexual harassment in the Adams County coroner’s office has been awarded $650,000 in a settlement agreement.

Dr. Michael Arnall sued the Adams County commissioners and former Coroner James Hibbard in U.S. District Court last year, claiming he was fired because he objected to the harassment of female employees by Hibbard and a member of his staff.

Arnall said in his suit that Hibbard used overhead autopsy suite cameras to observe the breasts of two female employees. One of those employees was Monica Broncucia-Jordan, who is the current Adams County coroner.

Arnall, who began contract work with the coroner’s office in early 2005, had his contract terminated in early December 2008 because he preserved evidence of Hibbard observing Broncucia-Jordan’s breasts with the autopsy camera, the lawsuit said.

When Hibbard saw Arnall take a cellphone photo of the autopsy camera while it was trained on Broncucia-Jordan’s breasts, Hibbard “fired Arnall on the spot,” said Arnall’s attorney, David Lane.

“He stood up to Hibbard and told him, ‘Look, you can’t do that to these women,’ ” Lane said.

The $650,000 covers Arnall’s economic damages, pain and suffering, attorney’s fees and costs associated with the suit, according to the settlement agreement.

It also says the defendants in the case do not admit to violating any federal, state or local laws or to committing any wrongs against Arnall.

Hibbard, who didn’t run for re-election in 2010, couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday.

Broncucia-Jordan ran for the office against Arnall and narrowly won. She filed a federal lawsuit against Hibbard after she was fired in 2009, claiming she was terminated in retaliation for her participation in a sexual-harassment investigation against Hibbard.

Emma Hall, currently the Boulder County coroner, also sued Hibbard and Adams County in federal court, claiming she was sexually harassed while she worked as an investigative coroner in Hibbard’s office.

Court records indicate Broncucia-Jordan’s case was dismissed in August. A federal lawsuit naming another former coroner’s office employee — Sherronda Appleberry — also was dismissed in August.

Lane declined to say whether settlements were reached in any of those cases.

Adams County Attorney Hal Warren couldn’t be reached for comment.

Arnall’s lawsuit says that while Hall was employed as a coroner’s investigator under Hibbard, a supervisor would often rub Hall’s back and make “unwelcomed comments about Ms. Hall’s appearance.”

Arnall acted as an advocate in the office for the women who were being harassed, and because of that, he was seen by Hibbard as someone who was undermining the coroner’s authority, the lawsuit said.

The size of the settlement agreement should help discourage sexual harassment in the workplace and encourage those who speak out against it, Lane said.

“He (Arnall) is hoping that officials like a little tyrant like Hibbard don’t get to do what they do without consequences,” Lane said.
