The People’s House Roundup in Westminster
Hispanic voters: Stick with Obama or go with GOP?
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A year before the 2012 presidential election, Hispanic voters are facing a choice. They can continue to support President Barack Obama despite being hurt disproportionately by the economic downturn or turn to Republicans at a time when many GOP presidential hopefuls have taken a hard line on immigration.
Obama kicks off a three-day trip to Western states trip with a stop Monday in Las Vegas, where he wants to rally support for his jobs agenda in Congress. Nevada has the nation’s highest unemployment rate, 13.4 percent.
The trip comes as Republican candidates have taken a more strident tone on immigration. Read the rest of this entry »
RTD Director Ken Riley resigns amid allegations of theft from union
After being missing from the job voters hired him to do for months and potentially facing criminal charges, Ken Riley submitted his resignation to the RTD Board of Directors on Monday night. In a troubling trend, he becomes the third local Adams County politico in recent months to become embroiled in scandal.
Nearly two weeks ago Tony’s Rants was the first to report on Riley’s repeated absences from RTD board meetings and attempts to track him down were unsuccessful. Rumors were circulating that Riley had fled the area and was under investigation for theft from his former employer, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
The Denver Post reports this morning that the rumors are indeed true. Records show Riley spent thousands of AFSCME dollars to fund his campaign for the RTD board. Wining and dining, postage and even his victory celebration were funded by union members without authorization. Read the rest of this entry »

Primary date moves next year… Primary falls on June 26, 2012
“A June Primary will ensure that our military and overseas voters will receive an accurate and authentic ballot with ample time for delivery,” Secretary of State Scott Gessler said. “For in-state voters, instead of voting after summer vacations, Coloradans will need to cast their Primary ballots before they leave for family reunions and fireworks.”
Congress passed legislation in 2009 mandating that states mail ballots to overseas voters 45 days ahead of the election. Colorado’s late Primary and recount provisions created very short timelines for county clerks to meet the federal mandate.
